well ive had my Gt about a month now (didnt take long) and i got nailed for speeding and illegal lane change. Not gonna go through the whole conversation cuz its too long, but for the FIRST time in my 6 years of being pulled over(i mean driving [Razz] ) I WAS LET GO.....WITH a warning [Eek!] And by the CHP of all depts. They ALWAYS right ticket, to me and everyone i know...

I was sweatin bullets cuz i knew that this time i got caught and DIDNT see him coming. All i gotta say is damn it pays to be polite and to take an exit rather than stoppin on the shoulder. To the Chp that let me go [Whoo Whooooo!] [Whoo Whooooo!] Changed my opinion of all CHP being dicks.

[Whoo Whooooo!]

I ran into a cool one not to long ago too...I was pulling my trailer up to sac for the ls1 vs. efi ford race and was going about 75 on 80...I passed a chp officer that was on his bike watching cars from under an overpass. He waived at me to slow down and that was it. I think the limit is 60 with a trailer.

WHat the hell is up with the illegal lane changes... I am currently fighting one right now.. I have a friend that got one 2 weeks before me... 2 years ago I never even heard of anyone getting ticketed for that.

basically from my past exp....following to close ie:tail gate and then cutting over or most commen, speeding up to cut in front of someone next to u (close distance) ie: less than half a car length i guess... [BS flag]

I was told by a LEO that not staying in each lane for at least 2 seconds is an illegal lane change also (i.e. going from the far left lane to the far right in one swift move).

Well I know what one is.. Its just I seem to see them issuing it alot lately... Not something I ever heard of anyone getting ticked for previously... Though last 6 months I know like 5 people.

Mine I feel was BS because of what the officer said.. He said "I think you were speeding but I was in trafic facing the other way so I could not radar or pace you, so I am going to give you an illegal lane change" WTF I mean well too bad if you did not catch me.. If he said I was speeding and I was fine take the ticket be pissed at myself etc.. But I know for a fact I was not speeding, just what got his attention is when turned onto El Camino I ran it up quick to about 4k in first.

This sort of thing happens usually when they have to split to get to something more important.

Congrats!

LOl that happened to us in Oakland. We were coming back from trailing John91coupe's car to Sac. I think my dad was doing 75 in the lane one over from the fastlane and a bike cop came up knocked on my dad's window and pointed to move over a lane and then he floored it and took off [Eek!]

cops want you to take the first exit rather than pulling over on the side?

what if the next exit is 2 miles?

The illegal lane change thing is hot in SAC right now because of a study CHP did finding that over 60% of the drivers around here don't use their F'ing turn signals!!!!!

Wow, its an 100k car [Whoo Whooooo!] too bad it doesn't have those little blinking lights my $5k ranger has.... [Roll Eyes]

They found cutting people off, no turn signal, multiple lane changes are the number 1 aggrivator for road rage.

As far as pulling to the side of the freeeway or a ramp, if you can get off the freeway and out of sight of traffic that is what CHP like. They are paid to keep the freeways open at ALL times, and having cars parked barely off the shoulder angers them. The other thing that pisses them off (I've witnessed this from the FRONT seat of a CHP car) is when you blow by at 90-100, they do 100-110 to catch up to you, you panic and stomp the brake pedal. You're busted, why slam on the brakes now? They have to try to slow 2 tons of lead sled down now to try not to crush you, then you make an illeagal lane change or 3, then park where they have to walk in traffic to speak with you, then you cop an attitude an try to lie your way out of it....

Let me know how that works out for ya.

Tips to avoid a ticket: rather than slamming on the brakes when you finally realize there is a cpo in you rearview, gently lift off the gas, put your right hand up and wave that you see them (Sounds stupid but works and lets them know you are aware of them - cops do this to each other all the time) signal and get off the road safely/completely. Do every thing you can to be couteous and polite at this point. Call the officer sir/mam (or by rank if you know it ie: seargent), don't try to lie, don't make excuses, have all your paperwork (registration, license, insurance ready AND CURRENT!!!!) Flat out tell the officer hey, I'm sorry I was driving a little fast any way you would allow me a warning?

Cops aren't real concerned with speed so much as unsafe speed. If you look like you can drive safely, they really won't hassle you too much. If you are on the phone, making eratic movements, tailgating, etc. You're screwed. If you get a cop on a bad day, take the ticket be polite and fight it later. Everything you do and say is recorded now days and will be used later on if you do fight it. Don't give them any reasons.

Oh, to guarantee you get a ticket, pull to the mall (the center median of the freeway) when you are stopped. CVC specifically say you will yield and pull to the right. Cops love that Shit!

yeah no shit...my last ticket I tried go to the next exit, not for his benefit but because of my own...You could see the exit just up the way but he wanted me to pull over bad cause he started barkin over the speaker "PULL THE SHOULDER PULLOVER!!"

I was like whatever dickhead and went to the exit anyway. He was pissed off and was happy to write me a ticket. I think the exit thing is a myth unless they light you up RIGHT at the exit. Otherwise they think your up to something...buying time or some shit.

I think it all comes down the the cop and what kind of day they are having.

but if you say that everything is being recorded nowadays,, wouldnt you be incriminating yourself in a trial later on if you say,, "hey" i know i was speeding, can you just give me a warning?" i dont think cops have actually recording devices on themm, just mounted on their police cars... so they don't record your conversation,, because besides, i m pretty sure its unconsitutional to record a stop without first the officer tellin you your rights.

Most R/o's keep recording devices on them to protect themselves from bullshit complaints not to burn people in court. Their court testimony or recorded video evidence of the violation will usually burn people in court. An Ofc that pulls you over for a traffic INFRACTION can record you. You are not in custody so miranda is not applicable. That of course changes if you get arrested and incriminating statements could be made then you would need your miranda admonishment so that your rights are protected. [patriot] But what do I know... I just drive mustangs. [Big Grin]

Yup...Rossetti had me recorded when he slapped cuffs on me and everyone in the court room heard my blubering ass begging him to not impound my car and to let my friend take it home.

He ended up not impounding it. So you see crying and begging can work...even on Rossetti [Big Grin]

I think he is known world wide by now LOL but yes..fremont.

Here one for you Rossetti [burnout] [burnout]

Oh there is a white Camero CHP here in Fremont. Very hard to see this guy. I usually see him posted between the 880 Fremont Blvd. Exit and the 880 Thorton exit. He'll get me some day, only a matter of time. Being that low to the ground with the low prifile lights and being a white car makes him blend in too good. See him posted at the Starbucks off Mowery all the time too,...only not in his car but sippin coffee with some other cop buddies.

Congrats!

I got caught doing about 120-125 about a year ago down HW50. Just a little top of 3rd and through 4th gear pull. A few miles down the road when the cop caught up to me, lights and sirens blaring, and I was back in the slow lane doing 65 I knew I was in big trouble...lol

To make a long story short, right after he got done telling me I'm stupid, blah, blah, blah, he gets a call for a roll over just up the road. He told me someone "upstairs" must like my car, handed me my stuff back and took off.

So yeah, this goes with the "something more important" idea..lol

So going by the something more important idea.. I guess you should call in a bomb threat every time you get pulled over a little bit up the road?
