m looking into getting a truck for my next daily driver my chrysler is almost on its last leg. i was looking into a Diesel. i kinda want a Ford powerstroke diesel truck.

Me and my mom went and tested a 1998 Dodge ram cummins diesel and a 2000 Ford F250 powerstroke diesel I liked them both my mom likes the F250 better. Not as loud and smoother than the dodge and it has to be automatic because she will have to be able to drive it around she might be helping me with the payment on the truck. so she has some say in what I get.

My friend has a 02 Ford powerstroke and he installed a new downpipe and catback and got one of those hand held tuners and now that things hauls ass now.

If i get a truck by the end of the year it will prob be a diesel and i can spend the extra money into the notch and make it hopefully fast and reliable or wait till next june(my bday [Whoo Whooooo!] ) and get a Lightning.

General rule that you will thank me for years from now, if you can't afford to pay cash you shouldn't buy it. So unless you got the cash look for a truck you can pay for in your cash price range.

Food for thought: I kicked around the idea of buying a little hatchback (Civic SI, Beetle, Audi TT, Focus SVT, etc.) for my girl, cash is limited right now so if I spend 20k on a car, put $5,000 down and finance 15k plus tax and stuff I am looking at a 375-400 dollar payment, plus full coverage insurance, another $100-150 then you have to gas it up at $70 a week, thats = to 755 on the low side. I can think of a lot better thing to do with $800 a month than drive around in car.

Just in case you didn't know a car is the worst investment you can make.

And with gas prices the way they are why in the hell are you considering a truck for a daily driver?

That's exactly what i was thinkin lol.

But maybe his daily work requires a truck to haul stuff around [Confused]

I'd love an f250 for my own personal use but i have no driveway large enough and gas would kill me. That's why i have a an 03 Tacoma double cab and a 93 Celica for daily gas savings.

I NEED A MUSTANG AGAIN [Big Grin]

I drive a 05 F-150 and I have to pay $70+ to fill up every 1-2 days. Oh well, everything is a write off for me. Gotta love being a contractor!

If you want a truck to use as a daily driver I would suggest getting a Ford Ranger w/ a V6 and 5-speed. You can pick them up pretty cheap, they get ok gas milage (20+), and will still have a little power.

I got my 95 integra with 0 down, payin $100 more a month for insurance than the damn car payment ($150 for the car, $250 for full coverage). final price after everything is ~10k, the window price was down to 6200 iirc

Get that Ford Hybrid truck. I want one of those [Smile]

i was also thinking maybe a Harley Davidson edition F150.
i want a truck becuse we always end up looking for someone to let us borrow a truck when we are hauling stuff around. my grandma loves doing landscaping on the house and slowing fixing pieces of the hosue and my mom is getting mad when we put like 15 bags of cement and dirt in the 500.
and my mom agrees thatwe need a truck becuase were fuckin up the other cars when we go to home depot.

Go ahead and pay $750 a month to haul concrete back and forth from Home Depot to your house. Or buy a beater truck that will do the same thing.

I laid the math out there for you and really if you want a Harley Davidson at your age, you will pay over $1000 a month minimum thats is considering you have enough for a down payment.

LIKE I SAID EARLIER YOU'LL THANK ME LATER!

And why a Harley to haul bags of concrete??? [Confused] That's stupid.

Go ahead and hate me all you want, I know you wish you had one. And do your research on stock blocks and what kind of power they can handle.

And if I am not mistaken there are quite a few 11 sec and better Stangs running around here on stock blocks, so get off of my dick!

its not only going to haul stuff around , we have the 500 so that takes care of needs a car, plus its huge.
and i want a truck to be able to tow around my notch, so i dont have to wait 2 hours for a tow truck.

Whatever makes it happen for you! But when you decide about the future and want to buy a house, wasting money on a truck to tow your car and move concrete is flat out ridiculous, something to think about, the smart ones who succeed in life are able to differ between "wants and needs" you are discussing a want and sorry but working at FedEx is not go out and buy a Harley F-150 money, I am not putting you down but I was in your shoes at your age and wish someone told me to not waste money on car payments, I'd own 4 houses now instead of only 2, you have to look at the big picture, I can pull equity on either of my homes and go pay cash for whatever.

LIKE I SAID EARLIER, FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!!

Best of luck to you, kiss your paychecks goodbye though, but at least you'll be in a nice truck and everyone will think your a big baller, but you probably won't be able to afford the gas after you make the payment and insurance and you definatly won't have any money left over to fix up your Mustang. All I am giving you is a dose of reality, like it or not it's the truth.

or maybe ill get a turbo kit and put it on my coupe and not buy a truck? [Razz]

A turbo kit = 5 months of truck payments, or get the truck and that'll be for 60 months and if you make it to the end your truck won't be worth shit.

Try for a month to see how hard it will be to be without $1000 of the money you took home from work, it won't be easy.

You need to live within your means, at 18 years old and bringing home about $1600 a month if you work full time is not buy a $25,000 truck kind of money.

Your arguments so far are:

1. Haul Concrete
2. It's big
3. Only young once
4. Tow my Mustang

Those are simply pathetic excuses you are telling yourself, you "want" the truck but you don't "need" it.

I have an old beatup pickup that I use as my dd, and yes gas can be killer in a v8 truck. I would get a truck that is somewhat reasonably priced and not make payments on it. I agree with trunkster in that I don't put anything on payment plans. It leaves you with your options open down the road, rather than being stuck with paying every month. [patriot]

Well I own 2 houses make good money and can afford it and how are you going to tell me how much my kit cost, it cost 5k do your research or call Hellion and ask someone, I can afford to put money in my Mustang because I pay cash for everything. I'm not making payments for over 75% of my take home pay.

People kill me that say "I pay cash for everything". Though everyone has there opinion of this. I think if you can get a loan for say 1.9-5.9% and then turn around and invest the money you would of initially put out. You can easily get 7-15% return on your money with certain investments. I would rather use someone elses money and make mine work for me!!

Well TwoGun is 18 years old, will not qualify for a 1.9% loan and doesn't have the cash to flat out by the truck. I've dumped a total of 13k in my car including the car, I do pay cash for everything, if I can't pay cash for it I won't buy it, that means I cannot afford it. I live within my means. Dont take it so personal. People would not be on you so bad if you did not always have to state what you have. I was just saying that always paying cash for everything is not always the best. I bet at one time you used credit atleast to establish to get yourself in a postion to buy property.

Again on your statement I am not out buying 30K cars or blowing all kinds of money, but if I want to go buy something I'll pay cash. All I am simply doing is giving two-gun some advice, he can take it or leave it.

No one is "on me" first of all, second of all I don't always state what I have, (but this is a board and we are here to talk about our cars), and look at your signature, Mr. I have 3 Cobras. I worked my ass of to get to where I am and spent 5k on a turbo kit, big fucking deal if I talk about it, sorry if there are jealous people (hidennos) that want to come and talk about my stock motor, he can hate me and my turbo car all he wants and all I am doing is giving the young man some good advice, he can establish his credit otherways than living outside his means by buying an expensice ass truck.

Get a 88-90 toyota Sr5 pickup with a rebuilt engine for cheap and you'll be set.

The one's that were diesel (22r or something like that) last seriously forever, Top Gear even left one out in the ocean and it started back up with WD-40 used as starter fluid.

Mine has 205k with intermittant problems, but it was reliable nonetheless.

Why would I have a problem with you owning Cobras? But you told me I shouldn't state what I have but you are contradicting your statement just by your signature.

Unless you meant something else by your comment?

I didn't pay cash for my houses, I wish I had it like that. I make house payments and thats it, no car payments, no credit cards, no nothing just for the houses.

I had a teal 93 way back when, should have never sold it but thats another story, the turbo is nice, hell of fun on the freeway.

And I only need one Mustang, when I sell or RE-FI in July on my current home I will be getting a Supra possibly, only want one Mustang, although a 93 Cobra R would be soemthing to consider.

I'm not a fan of imports at all but respect and would love to own a Supra. I just decided to get rid of all my Mustangs but one. I'm picking up a truck this weekend so now I can use it for work and dont have to borrow every time I need to move anything.

Dude take it from me, I've done the car payment thing. All you do is loose money.
I just got out of car payments last week with my 2003 Mustang Mach 1. I loved the car and all but I wasn't being smart about my money. Especially since I am trying to save for a house right now, it wasn't happening. One day you'll change your mind about the truck and look back and said, shit I wish I was putting money away for a house instead of purchasing the truck.

I was paying 466.62 a month for car payments.
175 a month for car insurance.
65 bucks a week on gas

Essentially (sp) I was paying around 885 a month and basically that was one paycheck that was going to the damn thing. So finally I said fuck it, I can't do car payments anymore so I sold the car to a dealership. Anyways my point is, dealerships will always try and, well excuse the term "jew you" every chance they get. Especially since you're young they'll take every advantage they can get out of you. They'll rape you with interest charges, and they'll stick as for a couple of grand for a downpayment.

Any ways my point is, be smart about your money, you don't want to be in the situation I was in. I'm 24 still live at home, I can actually save money now since I don't have a car payment and put that towards a house.

I also just purchase a 1993 Cadillac STS 4.6 Liter v8 last week for 3k cash. I have no car note at all anymore, it's great. My insurance is 95 bucks a month and gas isn't to bad, I hardly drive the thing maybe twice a week if that.

All I am rambling about is try and save your money and if you can pay off the truck in full do that, don't waste your hard earned money on car payments, because they suck. Just my word of advice. Good luck

it depends on the truck and the price but i was going to pay for the truck in full, everyone else said that i was going to do the payment thing.
i was also looking at a mid to late 90's chevy sivlerado extended cab or a late 90's or early 00 F150 supercrew(4door model)

Quit lying, you said a Powerstroke Diesel, Dodge something, or a Harley F-150, you never mentioned a Chevy or a regular F-150.

Why the hell would you buy a truck with gas prices the way they are right now? Buy a honda or fix up your mustang, insurance will be cheaper and even your mustang will get much better mileage than a full size V8 truck.

I think it's pathetic he says anything about me or my car, he has taken shots at me too many times for no apparent reason, but I know he is just jealous, I feel kind of sorry for the guy.

Let me reply for him: "Pathetic, stock motor and a turbo, LMAO" that way he doesn't have to bother replying to the post.

5.0srt4 , you are talking out of your ass. I know Don personally and i know for a fact that what you are insinuating is not true.

having said that.. Javier, this is me talking to you as a friend, why get a car you do not really need... why buy all those parts for your car. why waste money. I know you say you are saying that you are only young once and all, but... dude, seriously is time to start thinking about the future. start saving money, investing money, buying annuities, investing in the stock market, etc. Start now... and you'll have nicer cars in the end.
I'm sure you feel pressure because of this community and friends imposing that your car should be clean and fast. don't succumb to those social pressures and analyze your life and see what you really need?
give yourself a monthly budged to invest on your car and resist the temptation to go over that budged and you'll be fine.

Probably the best thing I have ever read on this board. I notice alot of folks trying to "keep up with the Jones's" on this board. It is best not to live beyond your means. And if you are young, yes I would say money could be spent/saved/invested elsewhere.

That dude gave you some real "life" advice

glad to hear you'll start saving. my advice to fix your notch came about when you were contemplating buying a beat up roller shell.. buying a truck and dumping money on other not so primordial things. that's why i said... forget about all that and just fix your car. cheapest way out. good luck buddy.
