Maybe it is a Town Thing or maybe a Black thing....But I enjoy it. I used to be out there swangin too, it is just part of being young (in that area). I'm no stranger to bay area, I love it, it's where I grew up, but I think it says alot about the city of Oakland when it's people choose to portray/represent themselves like FOOLS. If you are dense enough to associate ALL of Oakland with what happens 1-2 days out of the week between 4-5 blocks. Then you probably should seek some help. There are many other things Oakland can be known by as well. Festival by The Lake, The Jazz Festival, Jack London Square........ But it is what it is. For most folks the most the have seen or associate with Oakland is what they will see on videos like this. But yea I grew up in the notorious part and this is what we do. And yea I am proud about it. But there are the few that ruin it (as with any function), but for the most part it is hella fun at the side-show.

BUT i have been to where people meet up for side shows and stuff decided i wasnt gonna go and be a part of it just bc i dont wanna be there when shit goes bad and people act like idiots not to add i wasnt w the brightest people but your right oakland does have good points and a lot of good things going on like w other cities just as we all should know the news doesnt show stuff like that and for those who havent been to oakland much or know what the good things are there only what they hear and see their left to assume thats all it is about sad but true and w the hyphy movement seems most of the youth would rahter be known for that then for the positive things they do out there!

I dont think you get it. But its cool man to each his own. I dont need to argue about it. But "The Town" is different than saying Oakland. When someone says I'm from the The Town and you are from there, you immediately ask "oh what part". Then I kindly reply "Brookfield"..... You dont just assume a global Oakland presence. And if they say something like "I am from Piedmont" that is not considered The Town even tho it is in Oakland. I guess its one of those you gotta be from there to understand. But when I said the The Town represented I meant like the East.

But like the topic starter no offense but I doubt you ever really been in Oakland. But it is a common misconception that everone gets off work and just starts swanging from dusk till dawn....lol.

Anyway like I said my comments were in no way trying to inflame anyone. You think Oakland is like that 24/7, good. You probably shouldnt be there anyway. Because you would probably end up getting your car stomped on for saying something ignorant anyway.

okay not tryin to get into your argument w him you both have points im just gonna tell u from my personal experience out there what ive known seen and done thats good.Though this was like 10 yrs ago now still sure the same stuff is going on bc ive heard/seen about it. I personally helped w the east bay conservation corp every weekend me and a bunch of other people who were waaaay older then me( same age as the people acting like fools in the streets) we went to the parks beaches schools retirement homes volunteered just hanging out w the old people helping around the place picked up garbage at parks and beaches etc helped plant new plants and make it look nice and clean at my school we painted a murial made a whole garden and trail for others to enjoy. I danced a lot and performed at a bunch of places w other people who were doing positive things like that not out acting like fools and like he mentioned the festival at the lake where lots and lots of people go and jack london has events and things going on there as well. Theres a lot going on that we just dont hear about bc we dont live there and dont look into it. Yea some parts are all fucked off and some people really just dont give a fuck about the town but its ignorant for people to assume thats all oakland is about bc thats all theyve heard or seen and i will say its also ignorant for people to destroy others property, to kill or hurt others for no reason or stupid reasons, and its not the brightest thing to be swangin them in streets and dancing on moving vehicles or whatever just tryin to make u see there are good things and good people in oakland

I agree the sideshow is alot more dangerous these days..... But hell going to school is alot more dangerous these days (Columbine...). My point being, it takes a real ignorant person to say some of the things being said and the gross generalizations. Hip hop is big right now, so everyone wants that street edge so the media puts it out there. And some people take it in a lil too much. Oakland in general is a beautiful city with alot of history. It is also a city where you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time too.

im very civilized and always try and work things out before they get there but sometimes things happen and people deserve it and ive seen guys in walnut creek stompin the shit out of someone couldnt really tell u the last time i was in oakland or drivng through there and saw something like that going on and yea i will agree most of the people are weird bc they dont get out much they lived sheltered lives and judge people based off what they "think"

Cool. Thats because we didn't get to talk freely about our opinions together , it was just a 2 minute sale so I doubted that either of us made any assumptions re: each other except for the simple faxt that it was a SMOOTH transaction/sale. Dont get me wrong I dont go blabbing my opinions where and whenever I want, but here where we can directly speak to each other on specific subjects it allows that much versatility, it's just the nature of the beast. I don't see how anyone could say one is better or worse than the other. But I am willing to bet more people have died from street racing than at sideshows. And since when did Oakland have low property values? Houses their start at like 500,000 easy

I was just thinking about it. I went from grinding, hooping and swangin. To Programming and living in the Burbs. I guess I straddle the line of civilized and Cro-Magnin.

I grew up in Oakland right across the street from Castlemont High, one of the wrost school in California. Yes there's crime but there's alot more love in the town then most outsiders see. The majority of all the people I know that grew up there is proud of it. It's funny how Oakland is protrayed. When I was in college in Long Beach I saw some wild shit. Believe me this, white kids go dumb. Meaning.... without they're parents around they were doing blow, nitrogen (or whatever you call that shit you inhale from baloons), weed, acid, you name it , I saw them do it. Point is... kids are kids. We like to dance and enjoy ourselves in a certain way and you guys enjoy yourselves in a certain way.
