Ussually go to dillon's beach. If you have a boat that would be best if not the pier is ok. I think Wal-mart carries crab nets. And you can pick up a license and any sporting good stores.

Don't know when they are in season we always go towards fall.

If you go off the pier, you may not need a license, but I'm not sure. Also check the posts/boards to see what is legal and illegal to catch. I know in the SF Bay, you cannot catch Dungeness Crabs but if you launch down at Half Moon Bay, I think the max on Dungeness Crab is 12 per license and they need to be about 6 inches long or something (shouldn't be a limit on Rock or Red Crab but need to be at least 4 inches long).

well, if im crabbing off the rocklines (in HMB), ill use nets. goto the local HMB fish market (right off 92), and buy like a ton of fish heads (dirt cheap). tie those puppies on there with some strap ties to the nets. it's usually best to crab during low tied and not many waves, so get urself a tied book at your local boat store or somethin. id say, once you throw the nets out off the rocklines, wait like 15-20minutes before you check on em....wear gloves to protect from cutting.....your hands will get beatup! haha

if your gonna crab in deep tiedpools, just use rope, a soad bottle full of rocks (as a weight to keep the rope down), and your bait (fish head). the places i go for tied pools are next to the lighthouse in HMB. take 92 towards HMB, then take 1 south, and go past Pascadero a little bit. youll see the big lighthouse. around there are great tiepools with a ton of fun [Smile] you can bring nets out there as well, just use em in LARGE tiedpools and deep spots.

anything else?

How do you secure the crabs once they bite on the fish heads?....Don't you need a basket with a trap door?...Sorry, I've only "crawdad" fished...

nah, they have crab nets.....big circular nets. once it's in the net, pull it up, caught! [Smile]

Ah, I'll have to get one of those...Ya think that's something Walmart might have?...
