On the 3rd of next month I'll have been here for 5 years. If you total all the increases in pay I received (not including bonus's) they total $1.69 an hour.
If that isn't reason enough I don't know what is. And its not $1.69 each year I got a raise,...it's $1.69 devided by 5 (years). So not even 34 cents an hour increace per year. Shit I'm being nice asking for only $5k
And thats only ONE reason.

Well I'd rather not bash my company with posting the actual name...but one of the products we make are the cooling fans in your xbox's and xbox 360's so when it burns out (and I bet it will) you'll know the company.
boss has been avoiding me all day

If it will help you go onto this site www.salary.com lots of good information about salary and raises, mean and median salaries depending on geographic location and a bunch of stuff. I run my own company with a few employees and used to be a director at a few big corporations and we use this tool alot to set salary ranges and as a tool to make sure we stay competitive in out market. You may find some good stuff in there to take to your meeting.
Note:
Not sure how close you are with your boss and or how relaxed your company is. But it is generally not wise to go into this type of thing with the "I have been this here this long and this is all I got" routine. Show your value in the company (what you do and stuff) and show some stats of some sort that validate your claim. Make it seem thought out.

Salary.com is 'OKAY' at best. It's vauge and doesn't apply to many job descriptions. In todays working world people are carrying more than one possition at a time sometimes three or four...Salary.com doesn't put this into account either. Companies just hope that their employees will be glad they even have a job and even more so if the job has health bens..
We hire 3rd party companies/conultants to crunch real numbers then shaft the employee's such as myself. That way they can blame the consultants for the crappy raises...yet these 3rd party people costs us hundreds of thousands of dollars...dollars that they could put in my pocket.
Its just a numbers game. The higher ups get what they want then throw the bones to us dogs.
My real only hope is to have a honest confersation covering all aspects of my job currently and show them how much of a difference I've made since my first day here. Simple is sometime better. If they don't see it my way then I may just put in my two weeks.
Plus $1.69 in 5 years. That is seriously a joke.
And if I did go off Salary.com I'm $10,000 below market value if in the 25% and $20,000 off market value in the 75th%...they should be sucking me off for asking $5k

Seriously though my official title is Admin Assitant III, yet I've taken on much of Facilities, some A/R and do all our Cobra Health Packages for the people we let go, quite or fire, HR used to do that and how it got dumped on me I still haven't figured that one. So in my eyes I've taken on parts of four other possitions which I totally don't mind...but a buck sixty nine?
Oh yeah I forgot I'm the only one that knows our security system, access cards, holiday access, doors, lighting, cameras etc. Its brand new as of last month and the installer quit so if anything does happen to the system we have no one but me to either fix it or contact the right people to fix it.
my job aint glamorous and I'm not even very proud of it but its keeping money coming in and I think it only fair to be compinstated

good luck man. i totatlly understand where you're coming from. holding one too many titles and having too many responsibilities. my problem isn't pay though. it's deciding if i should stick with the company or move on. $1.69 is . last year i got $5 raise .

Man good luck in your quest. something to think about, cost of living goes up like 3% a year. You should get that as a minimum raise per year if your at a decent company that values their employees. If they are not willing to give it up or negotiate a deal it's time to move on bro. Employers always try to get labor as cheap as they can get away with, so if you are that valuable it should be no problem for them to kick down some cash. Just be polite in the way you bring it to the table. And be professional about it. well that's my 2cents and how I operate. It works pretty well for me. GOOD Luck to you.

Never ask for dollar amount increases. You cannot justify that with simply numbers. You have to do your research and get the low, average, and high salary examples for your job position. With those figures get the percentage at where you are at. NEVER simply ask for money in $dollars. Only ask for a percentage "salary adjustment" and not a "pay raise".
Trust me..this works all the time and it will be hard for your employer to argue if you have all the facts in front of you. They can say that they cannot afford to give you an adjustment, but that is when you say, "thanks for letting us discuss this". At that point is where you start looking for another job.
Trust me...the wife is a HR director of a large company...helped me get my salary where I felt it should be...

Man.. sounds like me. Ive proved myself the first year I was working where I am... then since I was one of the few that 1)showed interest in moving up the ladder 2)busted ass with whatever they throw at me 3)dont complain much about pay 4)never miss a day and show up 10mins early EVERY day and 4)am always willing to learn something new... since I do all of those things it seems over the last 6-8months whenever someone gets frustrated or tired of working on things they throw it at me... then it gets done. The thing that sucks is when I started I was being paid accordingly.. then I started taking on tasks from people literally making double what I do, yet I dont get a bump in pay.
All in due time I suppose.. my goal is to sit in the boss's (sp?) chair someday, even told him that, in a nice way.

Still haven't sat down with her yet. I passed by her this morning and asked to go over my anual rev. later this afternoon and that there were some things I wanted to talke about. She seemed cool so hopefully I caught her on a good day.
Thanks for all the advice...in the last three days I've put together a pretty good argument and took the above advice on not asking for a particular dollar amount. I also spoke with one of the girls in HR that I trust and she gave me some advice too. Will let ya'll know the outcome

CAN I GET A ?
Bonus was increased to $4.5K when last year it was $3.5K, as nice as that made me feel I still wanted compensation for all the work I've taken on the past HALF DECADE!
Toward the end of my review I said I'd really like to talk about my value to ***** Products Corporation within the past 5 years. I calming 'told' NOT ASKED my boss that I felt it was time for me to be seriously acknowledged for the work I've provide the company and that a fair 'salary adjustment' be made. After 10 or so min. of bs'ing back and fourth an agreement was set and I now will be making $6.5K more per year starting next pay period.
Can I get a ?
PS. DON'T TELL MY WIFE!!!!!!! I'm not kidding..
**edit** ps...I'm getting hammered at lunch today!
