just installed some shortie headers on the stang. good news is that i solved my exhaust leak, bad news is i have a strained right arm from trying to hold up the entire k-member with a buddy back into place after reinstallation(rather muscle up the tranny again). Anyone else installed headers on a 4.6? And which method did you use, lift the engine 6 inches, or drop the k-member? i see why shops charge so much for installation.

The easiest way is to drop the K-member. Not the easiest of mods to install...

yeah that's what we figured. and once we had it dropped it was pretty easy to access all the bolts. but muscling it back into place is tough work.

Do you have a stock or aftermarket K. I have an aftermarket, and its actually pretty easy access to them. Stock one, no way in hell. but once we did the swap, its not bad.

try bbk long tube headers on a 96 with nothing more than hand tools. Me and a buddy just loosened one motor mount, took off the starter, and went from there. needless to say, NEVER AGAIN! 42 hours straight.... could barely turn each header bolt a 1/4 turn at a time.... Well, caffeine was my friend those long hours... for modulars.

shoulda dropped the K, even with hand tools. It would be faster.

i still have the stock k-member, so it was definetly some work. i totally see why when it comes time to do headers that people replace the k-member (save 40-50lbs) at the same time. any recommendations on a good k-member?
