I find it funny, that the Honda owner got arrested and charged with second degree murder.
But, that's really sad.

wow, that really sucks.. RIP to him and my prayers are with his family and his two kids.. but how did the honda guy get chaged with the murder?

Wow a White GT fox body is in the pic as well.
Great, another reason for the state to point the finger at us "would-be street racers" and car heads to give us stiffer penalties for this guys mistake for racing a Honda.
RIP to the guy but it's just a lose-lose situation for everyone but the state when these scenarios happen.

Their reason in the report would probly be, "Mr. So&So instigated the race."

He can be arrested on 2nd degree murder under reckless indifference. I doubt that this will stick if anything it will be dropped down to involuntary manslaughter after both sides negotiate.
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but it really doesn't matter what car he was racing and what car he was racing against.

He was charged with murder because he left the scene of the crime. If he had stopped and called 911 i bet his charges would be a lot more relaxed.

No he was arrested under 2nd degree for reckless indifference. Leaving the scene of an accident had nothing to do with the murder arrest. He could have been arrested for 2nd degree even if he stayed there and dialed 911 himself!

i see, but think about it you were just racing on the street and the person wrapped would you stop and call the cops or be hella nervouse and just keep going not thinking just driving?

Yeah I'm sure that he will claim duress and shock. But the arrest charges will still stick. If it were me I'd pull over and make the call. That's just me though I seem to pull over on all accidents and help out when I can.

If he stayed and called 911 they would likely give him a little leniency during negotiations, but he could still be arrested for 2nd degree. But since he did not stop they will likely try to stick him with leaving the scene of an accient and use this against him. Its really never good to leave the scene of an accident.

That's Crazy about the Murder Part. I could see if he caused the guy to crash or made contact with his car. Check out the rest of the story:
quote:
The widow of a Sacramento man killed Thursday in a suspected street race believes second degree murder may be too harsh a charge for the other driver arrested in the incident, her friend said today.
Ramona Skattebo visited the site of the crash at Auburn Boulevard and Cobalt Way with her friend. The friend said Skattebo is waiting to see the police report on the crash that killed her husband and injured her brother-in-law.
Steve Skattebo, 25, (shown above) was killed Thursday morning when he lost control of his Ford Mustang and crashed into a tree. Witnesses said it appeared Skattebo had been racing a red Honda. After the crash police arrested 22-year-old Jason Antoine Golson of Citrus Heights. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Golson's brother, Brian, was also at the crash site today. He talked briefly with Ramona Skattebo and reporters. He denied his brother was racing and said he doesn't know what caused Skattebo to crash. He said after the crash, his brother returned to the site but didn't stop because he didn't think there was anything he could do to help.
Ramona Skattebo, however, said she visited her brother-in-law in the hospital and he told her that a red Honda was stopped next to their car at a stop light and the driver revved his engine. He said Skattebo considered it a challenge he had to take.
The Sacramento County District Attorney said her office has charged others with second-degree murder in street racing cases in the past, but it is not common. Jan Scully's office said it would investigate further to determine if Golson will face that charge or a lesser one at his arraignment on Monday.

Did anyone see the video? In it they said that Stockton police did a crackdown on streetracer modified looking cars, "cars lowered and with tailpipes" the chick said. They said that they ticketed about 24 cars in 2 hours and impounded two cars for having parts with modified numbers.

The guy with the CRX is being charged with 2nd degree, and is anything I feel for the mustang owners kids. They now have to grow up without a father becuase he was being stupid and not resposible and racing a freaking import on the damn street. People never learn.

i know how people feel on that one, u guys can flame if u want but the fact remains....if UR racing, and someone wrecks due to YOUR race wether ur fault or NOT, the FIRST things that goes through the mind of the person who didnt wreck is "FUCK im gonna lose my license and go to jail, because I WAS racing!"
Its a stupid mind thought but its true and ive had it happen to ME once. I felt like shit afterward, and WAS ashamed....i was on the highway, i was already too far ahead to stop, and if u DO go back and help, "What happen here" well officer this.....
And U will get arrested for racing, lose ur license, and like this poor guy possibly face murder charges IF someone is unfortunate enough to perish in the wreck.....Now ive learned since, BOTH were wrong for racing on a street like that, Both have/will pay the consequences(sp), but quite honestly i think the 2nd degree charge is
