nervousness gettin on an airplane is a very common,, dont feel alone man,, for me i take a dramamine, because i get motion sickness on the plane,, so that relaxes you and makes you sleepy. I would possibly suggest get there early,, make sure everything goes well, double check everything, and just dont think about it in a negative thought, i think the stats say you have more of a chance of dying by getting eaten by a shark, than dying in a plane crash,,, so in the end, just relax bro,, breathe and think about the cool places your going to..!

The doctor will actually give you a pill to relax you. Its a good idea cause the flight to France is long. Reality is you have a lot better chance of being in a car accident or getting hit walking your dog than a plane crash.

Just think about the fun you will have when you get there, its a great experience

I just flew to the Cayman Islands last week and was fine, so assuming I make it home Saturday with out dying I'd say you'll be okay too

If it weren't for my co-worker's fear of flying, I wouldn't have been to Denver for training.
I suggest a few drinks before the flight and get an aisle or window seat... don't sit bitch.

I broke over 250,000 miles this year flying.. and I will still get another 10k in before the end of the year.. I honestly don't worry about it anymore.
Though I still hate sitting in the back for 16 hours at a time. Thats worse then the fears others have.

parker, dont worry about it. You have a worse chance of getting hit by lightning while getting eaten by a shark while driving home to walk your dog.

Its rare for a plane to crash. I think theres a thousand planes in the sky at a time. I believe it was found that its the safest way to travel. I get nervous only when the plane drops a few hundred feet in a second or so from turbulance and its because i went on Drop Zone at Great America a couple of days before i went to Florida i think. Now its just stuck with me. I hate Drop Zone.

no its just being reported more since that one incident where the passengers got to watch their airplane fly around before it crash landed on bad landing gear.
Also if your going to drink before you fly you better be a calm drinker, if you act up you will be arrested. They aren't standing for that crap anymore.

You just have to take into account how many flights there are versus how many crash. Out of the thousands of flights a day theres what, maybe two crashes a month? I can't remember the last time a plane went down over the Atlantic. When I flew over there I was kinda trippin, especially when I saw ice burgs in the water. Just get really f'd up because its a 10 + hour flight.

In my previous life I had to fly in some pretty bad airplanes. I remember one, we had a hard time taking off and climbing because the engines were just barely legal. Not that they were leaking, just low on power. We made it from Florida (Ft. Walton Beach) back to Mountain View (Moffett Field) with no real problems.
Seriously, don't sweat flying. As has been said before, there's less air crashes than car, train, or even walking. You stand a better chance of getting hit by a bus crossing a street than going down in an airplane.

what ever you do, dont run up and down the isles yelling "were gonna crash!" becuase now there are air marshalls on most planes and they probably shoot you and turn the plane around.

I hate flying with a passion as well - mainly due to a REAL bad flight I had several years ago when I flew out to Washington DC. I had to fly out to Omaha, NE a few months back for business, and I went to see my Dr. beforehand about getting some pills to chill me out. She hooked me up with some Ativan/Diazpam, I took a couple before my flight and I slept like a baby each hop. Smoothest plane ride ever, too.
Don't drink to help yourself, do the right thing and go see your dr. if you need to chill out on your flight.
Oh yeah, check out this site's forum: http://www.fearofflying.com/message.htm - there are people there who can answer your questions and also some suggestions on how to prepare yourself for the flight...things to think about, reasons to not freak out, etc. Also, you can post up your flight # and stuff there and someone on the forum will track you while you're in the air. It sounds stupid, I know, but for some reason it has a psychological effect that calms you down when you know someone is looking out for you and watching your progress.

Some good advice, the safety record of Trans Atlantic flghts are very good. I've flown a lot this year (for me) and i take my mind off it by thinking about what I need to be doing when I get where I am going !
Practice your french (if you need to)
