basically, im looking for a brand new setup in my 03 Cobra Vert. I'm tired of my Mach 460 setup...

i'm going to start with an upgraded deck... so what radio deck should i get.. standard is cd/mp3 player...

is pioneer good?
is alpine good?

does the brand matter?? im not looking to get a 2 DIN deck, ie. DVD player or anything like that.. i just want a quality deck that looks sweeeet... and outputs sweet audio... =)

any advice/input would be great.. thanks!

ps. a deck around $300-$400 range would be perfect!

Personally i love sony i have always had sony and sounds awesome and last 4-ever..I got the sony explode no dvd screen or anything 50x4 watts. 2 12" w6 JL and sony- mb quartz speakers and I LOVE IT..

I vote on Sony decks also, quality stuff right there, hard to beat a 52w x 4. Cant remember the model number of the deck that was in my 98 GT but the same deck was recently in one of the MM&FF's mustang when they featured the Sony setup.

The setup i ran was the Sony deck, with competition Alpine amp running 2 10" DVC Orion Extreme's.

definately alpine. sony decks suck. The alpine and even pioneer decks are way more tunable.

eclipse are also VERY good head units. Just stay away from the Best Buy specials. (XPLODs)

Ive got two Kenwoods now, but I recently bought a bad ass Alpine Head Unit, alot better in 05.

If your going navigation unit go with Eclipse. S obasicly I say ty the new Alpine 05 series.

Get a deck that allows you to control an IPod. This is DEFINITELY the way to go even if you don't have an IPod right now.

This is one of the best IPod decks I have seen:

What makes alpine so good though? is it the whole tunable characteristics???

Thanks everyone... i had a sony deck on my last mustang (MEX-5DI) i loved it, but i didn't need anything as flashy as that..sounded great, but everyone around me got ALPINE decks, and i always wondered why they always bragged about Alpine decks..

why buy an alpine??? personal preference. A honda and a mustang will both get you from point a to point b. Youll have less fun in the honda, and it has less features. Same with decks. A sony will play a cd but nowhere near as many features. Just boils down to preference, and how much tunability you want. Also, the alpines arent really all that much more.

Im a big Eclipse fan... Ive been using Eclipse since back in the day when I used to compete in car audio. That was about oh... 1997ish. Ive had lots of luck with those decks.... not too flashy and have all the real important features. (low line impedance, high voltage pre outs, simple but usefull EQs)

alpine is definitely the way to go.. plus they have so many different types with so many features to choose from. crutchfield.com has them all.. i've never been a fan of sony car audio products though..

i have the 9853 the one right below the 9855 above, when i had a sub and amp in my notch, my friend was tuning the eq for it and he was amazed at all the features it had.

I've had Aiwa, sony, Pioneer, and 2 Kenwood Excelon decks.

I personally like Pioneer for how cheap and versatile they are.

Sony and Aiwa are CRAP.

Eclipse, Alpine, and Pioneer are great choices.

ive had pioneer and it was CRAP!!!!! alpine are good but sony is alot better ive had my sony deck for 5 years now and never had a prob.and rocks my shit.its alot easier to tune then many others.I use to be a stereo installer and sony deck's NEVER CAME BACK!!!

Nakamichi Head units are the best quality and cleanest sound for your price range and beyond. That deck with a small four channel amp will be more than enough. Ive been doing car audio for about 8 years, I think the Nakamichi is your best bet. Other than that, Kenwood Ez-700, is great. I have one myself. It has built in sirius satellite radio.

Nakamichis are very good, no frills type of unit very basic. I have a pioneer premier unit, i forgot the model but it was like $800 when i bought it should be like 4-500 now, imo these are one of the best units around. you can control every aspect of your audio and has very cool other things u can do with it. Pioneer Premier [worship]
