Its definitely possible.

A well thought out 306 combo could go mid 11's all day long. I think the reason most people opt for the the strokers is that if your already building a motor, hell, why not get some extra cubes while your at it?

Puting the car on a bit of a diet wouldn't hurt either [Wink]

I saw a NA 331 that Eliot Franklin at the Mustang Corral built, something around 13:1, 600+ hp. It was in his fastback roadracer.
That motor sounded insane.

I'm sure in the right car, say an 87-93 notchback, it'd be good for high 10's, low 11's at least.

hate to burst your bubble there Matt, but the man is right. A motor USES power, whereas an engine MAKES it. Motor = Electric....Engine = Uses fuel

engine n. 1. A machine that uses energy, esp. energy from a fuel, to perform work.

motor n. 1. A machine that converts electric energy into mechanical power

We did it with Edelbrock performers (1.90/1.60 valves).
3250lb raceweight, 11.99 @114.7mph w/1.70 60ft.
120K mile stock shortblock.

Fasterdamnit did it with 87 OCTANE & a SMOGABLE camshaft!
