How many of you guys run an offroad pipe? I'm thinking of getting one for my car, at least until I get some high flow cats. I'm just a little bit chicken lol. I hear alot of people running them around here, but still. Have any of you guys ever been caught?

I've ran an o/r pipe on every stang i've had and no problems, never been stopped... my current setup is upr o/r x, with slp lm2..

IVE ONLY BEEN PULLED OVER ONCE AND IT WAS BY A COP THAT OWNED A MUSTANG. HE JUST WANTED TO TELL ME TO WATCH OUT CUZ MY CAR WAS LOUD AND THAT OTHER COPS WOULD PULL ME OVER BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH...... I KEPT DRIVING THAT CAR AROUND FOR ANOTHER 5-6 MONTHS BEFORE I SOLD IT AND THE OTHER TIME I GOT PULLED OVER WAS FOR EXHIBITION OF SPEED NOT SOUND VIOLATION.

GO WITH THE OFF ROAD SET UP I THINK ALL THE GUYS ON HERE WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING AND HIGH FLOW CATS WONT QUIET IT DOWN TOO MUCH MORE GOOD LUCK----RICK

I disagree, with the cats on... it will quiet the car down a good amount. Take 'em off, and you will see [Razz]

I don't know anyone who has been caught. However, that doesn't mean it can't happen [Wink]

If you are driving on the street and see a cop just put the clutch in.

Yeah, day and night. I was running an off road H for a long time and just switched to a catted X, the car is way quieter. On the plus side, it does have more pull on the bottom end. I worried about it because of the massive crack down around Sac on smog issues. I have been told that cops will sometimes tap on the cat with thier night stick to see if they are hollow but I figured out a way around that..... [Big Grin]

bro I have longtube headers, off-road x-piope, muflers with dumps. Ya I've been pulled over few dozen times but never for the off road pipe. I've heard that the cops are checking cars now for cats, so get your off road pipe weld a fake catalaric converter on it and call it a day. They will never know. I'm actually gaoing to do that when I have time.

thats what i've done for the past 8 years with my off-road h pipe. though a couple times i haven't seen the cop until too late and he hasn't done anything, so you should be ok.

Yep, Offroad H here too. Just always have liked it and had no problems with it. And for reference I run it with Spintech Pro Outlaw Race mufflers.

i dont know about anone else on here but i like to switch up my exhaust alot to see what different combos sound like. anyways on my first stang i was runnin a upr off road x with dumped 2 chambers. it was by far the quietest setup i had. the dumps were like 90* dumps so it was quiet compared to my bullets with tails or the stright cut 1 chambers...anywas. on my wway to work at like 10 in the moring going through Orangevale. i get pulled over. cop asks me why i dont have tails...becuz i dont like them...he said thats illegal, i said no they exit after the passenger cabin....he said pop your hood. so i got some balls and said no...why? lol he said ok step out of the car put me in cuffs and in the back of his car. [Mad] so he popped it tried telling me my steet heat manifold wassnt legal the stock headers were aftermarket blah blah. SO got a ticket for no cats, no winsheild wipers (AUGUST???), no tail pipes. had to go to ref. passed fine. went to court showed judge my cert. $10 at window 3 please..and that was it...but ive had like 5 stangs all with off road pipes and that was the only time ive been puled over for exhaust. I WOULDN'T BE WORRIED ABOUT IT. [burnout]

Pro-chamber here...

Just don't be stupid on the roads and you should be fine.

If you give the cops a reason to pull you over its also an opportunity for them to inspect other things (front plate, tint, exhaust etc)

Why waist the money on an off road if You are going to put high flow's on in the future? There is'nt much difference horsepower wise between off road and high flow. IMHO You should just bite the bullet and go striaght for the high flow's and not spend the money twice. [patriot]

looks like a bunch of people has off road x/y pipes. my question is how do you guys get this stangs smog? they said even the catted bassani x-pipe it's still illegal cause you drop down from 4 cats to 2. Just want to know how people get around the smog. I'm getting my bassani x-pipes w/ cats soon. I had it on my 2000 GT and it did passed the smog then. But lately they said they're cracking down on illegal cats.

we pass smog by swapping the stock h-pipe back on

Posted by Hyperider (Member # 5936) on :

Wow, what a pain in the neck then. I thought you guys know someone that will pass it. Yeah, I'm getting the x=pipes w/ cats, but i'll also still keep my stock h-pipe just in case.

Yeah, that's my problem I'm not a good wrencher. I can do basic stuff but like the cats that's big deal to me. Just because I don't have that much tools and equipments to raise the car up. Also no garage to work into. That's another thing holding me up on getting another bike too, need a garage to park it. [Frown]

i know a bunch of people that have passed with just 2 cats, also depends on the smog tech, some care that the car has all of the oem smog equipment on, others just care that the essential parts are there, with 2 cats you should be able to pass smog and if a cop pulls you over he cant write you a ticket for not having cats, you could also just weld the heat shields on to a o/r h/x and it will appear that you have cats [Big Grin]
