So last 3 months of Graduation is coming up, i just got to do one of these graduation projects and present it to employers/staff/students.
Sp basically it has to be a project that involves Networking/IT and we have to present it in class.
It HAS to be something what i've learned and going above and beyond from what we have learned. Things we covered in previous courses:
Everything to do with computers, from installing Xp to rebuilding the motherboard. Working with FiberOptic, Ethernet and Coax cables CompTIA Operating System Certified Master Microsoft Office, Exel, Access, Powerpoint, Word Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop HTML, Java, CGI, Perl, CSS, MySQL, FTP Networks Routers, Hubs etc etc IP address and protocols Workstations Domains Servers Maintaining Accounts and setting up forests in between networks MS DOS, WIN NT, Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP and Vista
Wow and the list keeps going... So
The thing that is going back and forth in my mind is programming a Robot with Windows NT on a laptop and link it to our school database. So whenever a user signs on to Windows NT, the robot wakes up, then you can use Command Prompt and send commands to the robot. The robot can interact with users via command prompt..
Thats basically somewhat easy, getting a robot, either use wireless (bluetooth, infared, or just ethernet hooked up) and programm it with windows NT, use scripts and programm it to recognize command prompt commands....
What do you guys recommend?
What about other projects? Hooking up XBOX 360 or PS3 to a Windows Workstation? Play live and interact with users via network?
Creating a sample company inside a room with 5-6 computers, and programm each domain with specific designed programs which'll have a inventory of users/customers?
I dont know
What do you guys say i should do..

I hope they're going to provide the Fibre Switch for you if you have to use ALL 3 different types of lines. Those things are expensive. You'll also need a HBA card for whichever system's going to connect via Fibre. For fibre, you can zone to 2 fabrics for redundancy. This should cover the Fibre part. Just build a workgroup running on a coax backbone and connect 2 clients, 1 with fibre, 1 with cat5. Then, add 2 file servers running on Server 2003, both with a website. Cluster the 2 servers for high availability and then NLB the websites. Use the 2 workstations to access the servers and to show the redundancy. ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif)

A friend of mine setup a internet cafe/gaming complete with a card reader to monitor time and access. Setup LiveSpeak on a few servers. Although it was made in a gym it was pretty amazing. He kinda cheated because I made a web based GUI in PHP and XML for him. But it was tight, had stat tracking, teams, brackets (tournament style). Would make a killer project.
Good Luck

I would think fiber would be hard to do because of the price of gbics, sfp, etc...not to mention jumpers. Unless all that stuff will be supplied to you.

I work for a Virtual Software provider..
it's pretty much the latest and greatest when it comes to working with servers, migration, and disaster recovery...
look it up @ www.accessflow.com
also research into www.vmware.com
EVERY Fortune 100 company has switched to Virtual Servers....
it would be something unfamiliar with your instructors more than likely and a good company to start your type of programming and Gui's when designing the interface...

VMWare = I've used this great product since Day 1 and still usting ESX now mainly for test and contingency. It's a great way to slap together an image and voila, instant test server.

Great Input guys! The fibre is out of league as of now, im trying to do this with the basic stuff.. The whole Mini-Buisness idea is good, but i think group did that last quarter. They had a small company called "Verizon PCS" haha and it had bunch of database with phone numbers and accounts that were accessible on 10 different workstations..
Im still thinking... Something above and beyond networking hmmmm [ February 02, 2007, 03:57 AM: Message edited by: AL STOCK ]
