Anybody ever put a bone stock fox on an emission tester without any cats to see what numbers the car will produce? Obviously, it won't pass like this, but will provide good inforamation on what is considered normal for a good running stock combo without cats.

I just finished up a new bone-stock motor swap into my 88 hatch and the thing doesn't come close to passing with a stock pipe at idle. In fact, it GP'd. The car runs really well, doesn't smoke or burn oil and is really nice to drive. I'm trying to determine if I just need new cats or if I have an underlying problem that needs fixing.

The numbers are 586 HC at idle and 6.08 CO at idle.

couldn't tell ya. but I sure wish California would get rid of visual and have sniffer only ( its currently the other way around for 2000+ vehicles )

I took mine to smog when I first got it, didn't know the cats were hollow. If I remember correctly the HC was over 700, but don't remember the other #'s

Those numbers are a bit to high. Years back when we did emission testing on cars without cats the numbers were like 220 HC and like. 1.6 CO @ 25 MPH. Depending on the year. Anytime you are running 600HC and 5-6% you are to rich. Cats normally exhorb 400PPM and app 4% co. But including an air pump and cats is a different story

2000+ vehicles are OBD2 why visual and why sniffers??? Makes no sense whatsoever. Ct has visual also but the bottom line is the monitor status and SES light.

Thanks Tom, exactly what I was looking for. The car sat for many years, so it could be a few things, including the cats. The tuneup and all is good.

I replaced the 02's and the MAP after failing, I guess I'll swap out the FPR and a new set of injectors to see what happens. I don't believe I have any vacuum leaks, as the car is speed density.
